Conference - 30th Jan 2009 - Managing Food Intolerance in Primary Care

On January 30th 2009, FAIR held a conference MANAGING FOOD INTOLERANCE IN PRIMARY CARE chaired by Roger Jones, Wolfson Professor of General Practice and Primary Care, Kings College London. The meeting was the culmination of a three year scientific reseach programme into food allergies, conducted on behalf of the Foundation by Professor Jane Ogden of Surrey University. Professor Ogden was the lead speaker, along with her two research assistants Mia Nelson, and Joe Pope. Doctor Michael Tettenborn, a Trustee of the Foundtion spoke on behalf of FAIR.

As part of the research in 2006, a two year Practice Nurse Programme was devised with four nurses based in Primary Health Centres in Birmingham, Glasgow, East Anglia and London. The practices participating were selected because of the support offered to the nurses by the GPs who were particularly interested in food intolerances and allergies. The conference highlighted the outcome of their findings.
